Free Courses at Bexley Easter and Summer University 2008

Mapalim have teamed up with The London Borough of Bexley to provide a series of fun and educational courses for 11 to 19 year olds across the Easter and Summer Holidays 2008. With funding provided by Bexley Borough Council all Mapalim courses are available free of charge.

The Courses:

Making Choices About Childcare Training: Making Choices Training will be your first steps in the right direction. With interactive exercises, advice from professionals, and the chance to take up a workplace in the summer, you’ll have all the information you need to make the most of your future career. Making Choices is an accredited course, and participants who complete the programme will be awarded a certificate.
Age Group: 15-19
Dates: Monday 7th to Friday 11th April

Playwork Training: Playwork Training is a chance to earn a recognised qualification in Playwork and kick-start a career that makes a difference. Learn first aid, child protection, and gain the skills and confidence you need to get ahead. You’ll also have the chance to take up a work placement in the summer to gain valuable experience.
Age Group: 15-19
Dates: Monday 14th to Friday 18th April

Getting Started in a Pre School Setting: This is an ideal course for anyone interested in a career in childcare. You will learn the core skills for a Pre School Setting and First aid and get the chance to put these into practice with a work placement. At the end of the course you will receive a recognised qualification and a report from the placement to help your future career prospects.
Age Group: 16-19
Dates: Monday 28th July to Wed 6th August

Drama in the Community: If you are interested in the community around you, if you have things to say, but don’t yet know how to say them, this is a course for you. Using drama and film, you will get the chance to creatively express the issues that affect your life. So loosen up your limbs, dust off your camera, and find your voice.
Age Group: 11-14
Dates: Friday 8th August and Mon 11th August

Young Parlour Creative Arts Project: Mapalim's Parlour Project Space invites 11-14 year olds to get together and be creative. Participants will be taught how to use different styles by professional artists, build a portfolio, collaborate and curate their own exhibition
Age Group: 11-14
Dates: Tuesday 12th to Friday 15th August

The Darkroom Photography Project: See yourself as a professional photographer or a paparazzo shooting the stars? This course gives you everything you need to know about photography. From composition and materials, to editing software and professional advice. You’ll also get the chance to show your work in an exhibition at the end of the course!
Age Group: 11-14
Dates: Monday 18th to Friday 21th August

Drama and Music Project: This course is for anyone interested in film, music and drama.  Whether you sing, dance or play an instrument, come along and play your part in something special. Participants will collaborate and create their own project, improve their technical and creative skills and end up with a finished piece of work.
Age Group: 15-19
Dates: Monday 25th to Thursday 28th August
