Assignments
For this qualification, candidates will be required to complete the following assessments. Complete ALL tasks for each mandatory unit.

UNIT 101 - THE THEORY AND PRACTICE OF CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE'S PLAY
The assessment covers that practical activities for all outcomes and will also sample underpinning knowledge to verify coverage of the unit.

Task 1
Understanding children's and young peoples (ages 8 - 16) development through play is essential to the playworker. Produce a chart showing the basic stages of children and young people's development. Write an explanation of the implication of the stages of development for building relationships and the creation of appropriate play spaces/environments.

Task 2
Write a report on preparing play spaces for a play setting, including how the preparation tool into account the play needs of the children and young people. Your report should cover a range of different play types and include health and safety factors, basic legislation, methods to involve the children and young people, procurement of resources, adaptation of play and any other considerations.

Make references to how the emerging theories of playwork alongside Assumptions, Values and Principles of Playwork are linked to children and young people's play needs.

Task 3
The Playwork Assumptions, Values and Principles underpin Playwork practice.

Write an explanation of the impact of this value-based on Children's Rights in the Play setting, and give practical examples of how this can be incorporate into everyday playwork practice.

UNIT 102 - ASPECTS OF PLAYWORK PRACTICE

Task 1
Write a reflective account of how you would facilitate and support children's and young people's play needs, based at a play setting.

Your reflections should include the following important aspects:
•  How a playworker ensures children and young people can play in a self-directed way making best use of the play and
    recreational environments available to them.
•  How a playworker creates an environment an environment that enables children and young people to plan and direct
    their own free time eg: elements, props, loose parts etc
•  Appropriate intervention styles in the play process
•  Consultation and participation and the importance of children and young people being responsible for changing play
    environments to meet their needs
•  Balancing the need for children's safety with a child and young person's need for challenging opportunities and play
    experiences
•  Helping children and young people take responsibility for their own health and safety and to assess risk for themselves
