Frequently Ask Questions

  • What is an NVQ?
An NVQ is a competency-based qualification. It is designed to “prove” your skills a certain task or job role.
  • Who can do a free NVQ?
Anyone aged 19 or over who has been living in the UK for 3 or more years is eligible for the funding. You also need to be working or volunteering in the area in which you would like to gain the NVQ.
  • What if I have worked in the area previously, but now do something else?
Our training and assessments are work based; we need to be able to SEE you doing the job in order to assess you.
  • I am really interested in working in childcare but currently work in an office. Is there any way I can do the NVQ with you?
For certain qualifications, such as childcare and business admin, we are able to offer placements as part of the course. Please contact the Engagement Team for more details.
  • I already have lots of other qualifications. Am I still eligible for the funding?
Yes, anyone can do an NVQ with us regardless of previous qualifications
  • I would like to do an NVQ but it is not listed on your website. Is there any chance you have funding for it?
We are able to offer any NVQ you would like to do as long as you can find 5 or more people who would like to do it as well.
  • How long does it take to get the NVQ?
It takes between 3 and 6 months to complete the NVQ, although this is dependant on individual candidates circumstances.

  • I am currently doing an NVQ with another training provider. Can I do one with you at the same time?
This depends on the NVQ you are already doing and why you would like to do another. You should contact a member of the Engagement Team to discuss this.

  • What do the different NVQ levels mean?
Level 2 is for someone who works under close supervision of a manager or someone who does not have any autonomy or a lot of responsibility in their role. Level 3 is for someone who works with a degree of autonomy in their role. They are normally in a supervisory position. Level 4 is suitable for anyone working in a management role
